DNCC Announces Park & Ride Shuttle System for Community Credential Holders #DNC2012

Shuttle system will provide free, round trip transportation to Bank of America Stadium from Charlotte Motor Speedway and Carowinds parking lots
CHARLOTTE – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that it will establish a park & ride shuttle system on Thursday, September 6, to transport community credential holders to and from Bank of America Stadium, where President Obama and Vice President Biden will deliver their nomination acceptance speeches. The parking lot at Carowinds Amusement Park will serve as the park & ride location from the south of Charlotte, and the parking lots at Charlotte Motor Speedway will serve as the park & ride location from the north.

Distribution of tens of thousands of community credentials, the ticket that grants access to the final night of the convention, begins across the country this weekend. The park & ride system provides community credential holders with an additional transportation option to conveniently access Uptown Charlotte and the stadium without having to drive through the city, where traffic congestion is expected. The system is free and available to all community credential holders, and no RSVP is required.

Additional planning and logistical guidance is available here. Gates for the event are scheduled to open at 1:00 p.m., but convention planners are recommending that people arrive early. As people are waiting to enter the stadium, water stations, bathrooms, medical centers, and other amenities will be available. Convention organizers strongly encourage everyone coming to the stadium to stay well hydrated and bring disposable water containers and snacks for the wait in line.

“We are thrilled to welcome tens of thousands of Americans for the President and Vice President’s acceptance speeches at Bank of America Stadium,” said DNCC CEO Steve Kerrigan.  “The park & ride system for the final day of the convention will provide many of our community credential holders with secure and reliable transportation to the stadium, greatly reducing the number of vehicles on the road in Charlotte.”

Both parking locations will open at 11:00 a.m., with the first shuttle departing for Bank of America Stadium at 1:00 p.m., and the last shuttle leaving the parking locations for the stadium at 6:00 p.m. Once the shuttle buses arrive in Uptown, community credential holders will be directed to specific security lines to enter the stadium.  The shuttles will also return community credential holders to the parking locations following the President’s speech.

Americans can still sign up for the opportunity to receive a community credential by visiting BarackObama.com/community-credentials.
