Voter Registration: 8-11-12: Another Successful Day

by: DocJess

It was another great day, in fact it was especially busy due to the people stopping back to get the take on The Ryan choice. I've learned that there are a lot of people who seem to know that it's only Democrats standing in the hot sun registering people, and ask hopefully for information. There was the guy who came up and gently said: "I think you might be able to help me." "I will if I can," I said. He hemmed, he hawed, he petted Fiona and finally..."Mitt picked Ryan. Does that help us or hurt us?" I told him that if he was on the same side that I was, it was an early Christmas present. "Will it help us defeat Gerlach, too?" he asked hopefully. And we went forward with a nice conversation about how going forward every Republican candidate was going to have to either stand for obliterating Medicare or for voting with the Democrat. When he was leaving, he said that he was pretty sure I was a Democrat because no Republican would wear a shirt like mine. I took that as a complement!

There were, of course, the idiots. Big idiot winner of the day was the woman who "explained" to me that the Black Panthers are at EVERY POLLING PLACE scaring white voters. I asked if they were at HER polling place last time she voted, and she said no because she votes early, and they get up late.

It was also Fiona's first time working registration. As you may remember, after I lost Olivia, the only real requirement for my next rescue was that he/she be a political animal, and Fiona did FANTASTIC! She drew in every kid who walked by, was patient with everyone who wanted to pet her, and actually sat when I said "Fiona, sit." (OK, not every time, but it's why we're in remedial dog school.)

We'll be out there again today!
