Elizabeth Warren to Speak at #DNC2012

by: Oreo

Mon Jul 30, 2012 at 20:16:30 PM EDT

CHARLOTTE – The Democratic National Convention Committee and Obama for America today announced that Elizabeth Warren will speak at the 2012 Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C.  Warren will speak in primetime, just before President Clinton.

“Elizabeth Warren has championed the protection of the middle class throughout her life,” said 2012 Democratic National Convention Chair Antonio Villaraigosa.  “At President Obama’s side, she helped level the playing field for all Americans and worked to make sure that everyone from Wall Street to Main Street plays by the same set of rules.  Like President Obama, Elizabeth is a leader committed to rebuilding the economy from the middle class out, instead of focusing on the top down economics of the past fueled by outsourcing good jobs, risky financial deals and budget-busting tax cuts for only the wealthiest few.”

“It will be an honor to share the convention stage with President Clinton on Wednesday, and to talk about what is happening to America's families,” Warren said. “I grew up in a hardworking family, in an America that was investing in kids like me. President Obama is committed to making sure that America has a level playing field for all our families and to ensuring that every kid has the opportunity to make it. When I worked with the President to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I saw first-hand his commitment to building a future for our children and our grandchildren.  Mitt Romney and the Republicans want to go back to the same policies that broke this economy. It is time to move forward.”

The DNCC will unveil additional convention program details and speakers in the coming weeks. The first two days of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Tuesday, September 4, and Wednesday, September 5, will be held at Time Warner Cable Arena. The final night of the convention, Thursday, September 6, will be held at Bank of America Stadium.

ABOUT ELIZABETH WARREN
In the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, Elizabeth served as Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Her independent and tireless efforts to protect taxpayers, to hold Wall Street accountable, and to ensure tough oversight of both the Bush and Obama Administrations won praise from both sides of the aisle. The Boston Globe named Elizabeth Bostonian of the Year in 2009 for her oversight efforts.

She is widely credited for the original thinking, political courage, and relentless persistence that led to the creation of a new consumer financial protection agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She led the establishment of the agency, building the structure and organization to hold accountable even trillion-dollar financial institutions and to protect consumers from financial tricks and traps often hidden in mortgages, credit cards and other financial products.
